Reaver squads epitomised the Sons of Horus Legion’s way of war. Heavily influenced by the tactics used in the incessant tribal warfare of Chthonian, Reaver units specialised in lightning-swift assaults which maimed and disabled their foes; striking down leaders, and mercilessly cutting down any who were weak or isolated.
The first unit of the #returntoisstvan challenge is complete! Phew, what a relief. It’s finally starting to feel like something. The Sons of Horus scheme was trickier than I first thought to nail down. Do you go lighter green, darker green? I won’t be shy about changing the scheme lightly unit to unit. The Reavers, however, will keep a slightly darker appearance, as they will see more hand to hand combat than tactical units.
The Principia Belicosa guide was instrumental in clarifying my thinking as to how to equip them. It’s easy to go crazy and make them a jack of all trades, but boy are they pricey. The army centres around a core of Justaerin with the Reavers supplementing the spearhead. These Reavers will be quite light on equipment and may have jump packs depending on the points level we are playing.
Ah, playing. In the before times. The challenge was conceived to bring together a group of Heresy enthusiasts and play the Isstvan III campaign at Warhammer world. Thanks to THE EVENT this does not look possible. But at least we’ll have some awesome armies to comfort us through the winter months.
