Miniatures like this will become rarer and rarer. A hand-sculpted masterpiece by the Forge World studio. The detail for something on this scale is frightening. It really is a masterpiece.
The Armour was painted using a wet blending technique that works for such intricate, small scale miniatures. Blues, dark browns and silver, all quickly worked together to create a faux sky earth metal effect.
The full process was recorded and can be found in the Grand Index!
I was fortunate enough to chat with the sculptor and the topic of traditional vs digital sculpting popped up. Because of the sped-up production of digital sculpts, producing sculpts like this will become less fashionable moving forward.
Which is a shame. This miniature has gravitas, a personality that few digital sculpts are able to capture. The quality of this sculpt reflects the amazing range of miniatures produced by Forge World, especially with their early work in the Horus Heresy.
Enjoy these miniatures while they are still being produced. Show your support and pick this one up. Even if you aren’t a fan of Games Workshop or the Horus Heresy, this is a miniature of rare pedigree.
